Remembering To Celebrate

It is difficult celebrating happy events when things around us are sad and in flux.

This past week, there were birthdays, Easter and Passover traditions, anniversaries, pregnancies, births, and opportunities, at the same time as there has been sickness, fear, and death.

Life always brings a mixed bag of good times and bad, but the present pandemic has magnified this reality.

How do we celebrate during such difficult times? We can choose to enjoy happy moments, while acknowledging and honoring what is going on around us. We can light a candle on a birthday cake, as well as light a candle for those we mourn.

An inspiring coach I know named Anna recently shared the familiar phrase, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about dancing in the rain.”

I so agree with these words. What a great way to honor life, possibility, and future when we take the time to celebrate even as we are navigating the storm.

Bottom line: when things feel negatively imbalanced, let’s remember to find space for celebration and kindness to restore our hope in all the great that life can and does bring.
